Daniel officially assumes Riverside presidency during Change of Command ceremony

Dr. Robert Brittain “Britt” Daniel, J.D., officially assumed the presidency of Riverside Preparatory Academy on Friday afternoon during a formal change of command ceremony at Maginnis Field.

During the ceremony, cadets participated in a military parade and pass in review as several hundred parents, guests, faculty, staff and alumni watched from the stands.

Daniel is Riverside’s 11th president. A graduate of The Citadel and the father of a Riverside graduate, Daniel has served the Riverside community for more than 25 years, most recently as executive vice president for the last nine years.

“I am honored to be appointed as president of Riverside Preparatory Academy,” Dr. Daniel said. “Twenty-five years of serving the Riverside community has prepared me for this opportunity. I know, first-hand, what it is to be a parent who wants to put his or her son in the best possible position to succeed. The Academy’s unique educational model of structure, self-discipline, and leadership in an atmosphere of mentorship, brotherhood, and academic achievement is exactly what families are seeking and what society needs, today more than ever.”

Daniel succeeds Dr. Stanley C. “Stas” Preczewski, who earlier this year announced plans to retire after a long and distinguished career in secondary education and higher education. He will serve as Riverside’s president emeritus.

Change of command is a military tradition representing a formal transfer of authority from one commanding officer to another. During the ceremony, the Academy’s flag was passed from Academy Sergeant Major Chad Blansett to Preczewski in recognition of his tenure. Preczewski then passed the flag to Board of Trustees Chairman J. Jette Campbell, who in turn passed the flag to Daniel.

“Riverside has been producing capable and successful young men for more than a century,” said Campbell, an alumnus from the Class of 1965. “The Board has every confidence that Dr. Daniel’s leadership focus will continue to inspire young men to reach their full potential. Having witnessed the transformative power of a Riverside education through his son’s enrollment and his 25 years of serving the school community in a variety of key roles, he is well-prepared to lead the Academy forward.”

A reception honoring Daniel was held at Mitchell Quarters, the President’s home on campus.

Daniel’s career at Riverside spans an array of programs, divisions, and efforts at the Academy including prominent roles as dean of academics. As executive vice president, he has led the day-to-day operations across all divisions, to include academics and the accreditation process in 2017 and 2023, the Infirmary during a global pandemic, public relations, and technology, where he serves as the executive sponsor of the Academy’s Generative AI Taskforce.

A native of Georgia, Dr. Daniel earned a doctorate in juris prudence from the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law. He also earned a Bachelor of Science from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where he served as a Cadet Second Lieutenant in the Regimental Band and Pipes. He and his wife Robin, the talent acquisition and onboarding manager at Jackson EMC, celebrated 25 years of marriage in August 2023. They have two children; daughter Maddie is a graduate of the University of Georgia, and son Robb, a 2021 graduate of Riverside Prep, is currently a student at the University of North Georgia. Between school terms, he enjoys long-distance backpacking trips and plans to attempt a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail one day.
