The Title IX statute exempts from its coverage the admissions practices of non-vocational elementary and secondary schools. Accordingly, the regulations do not prohibit recipients from adopting single-sex admissions policies in non-vocational elementary and secondary schools. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 reads: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
