Ruben A. Barahona, Sr. ‘89
2022 Distinguished Alumnus
On behalf of the Alumni Council and Riverside Military Academy (RMA), it is my genuine honor to announce that Ruben A. Barahona, Sr. ‘89, has been named our 2022 Distinguished Alumnus.
Barahona entered Riverside as a sophomore cadet in 1986. During his three years at RMA, he was a three-year starter on the varsity soccer team, earning all-county honors his senior year. According to Errol Bisso, “Ruben was a fine cadet and did what he was supposed to do. Since graduating, he has become an outstanding alumnus. He and his wife Magda are special friends to my family and me.”
After graduating from RMA, he attended law school at Universidad Anahuac Mayab in Merida, Mexico. He is a founding member and partner of Camara & Asociados in Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico, and specializes in notary, corporate, civil, and real estate law. From June 2005 to the present, he is Public Notary #13 for the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico.
Recognized as a member of RMA’s Fusilier Giving Society for his generous cumulative giving, Barahona is a long-time, engaged alumnus and a loyal donor. He is the driving force behind the recently completed Strategic Plan for Athletics, which will serve as a roadmap for performance expectations and assessment, student-athlete development, competitiveness, improved retention, graduation rates, and leadership development. He is an engaged member of RMA’s international alumni community and a frequent visitor to campus.
Barahona began serving on the RMA Board of Trustees in 2014. He has served on the Board’s development committee and currently serves on the enrollment committee. Prior to the Board of Trustees, he served as a member of the Board of Visitors.
A native of Cozumel, Mexico, Barahona resides in Cancun, Mexico with his wife Magda. They have one child, Ruben Jr., who graduated from RMA in 2021 and was the recipient of the 2021 Sandy Beaver Medal of General Excellence. Ruben Barahona, Jr. is currently a student at the University of Tampa.
We are extremely proud of his accomplishments in his personal and professional life. His dedication to and passion for the Academy is an example to be commended and recognized with high regard. Please join us in honoring him as this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award. We hope to see you on campus at Homecoming to shake the hand of a man whose selfless service inspires us to give more of ourselves to help change the lives of others. Hail our Alma Mater.
Respectfully,
Dr. Bryan T. Baldwin, '96
