MMCM Steven Hadaway, USN(Retired)

Dean of Academics
Steven Hadaway is Riverside Prep's dean of academics. He has been a part of and helped to lead the Academic Department since 2001. He came to Riverside after serving 23 years in the US Navy, where he was a Navy Diver and served on Nuclear Powered Submarines. Steve retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer.
 
He began as a TAC officer in the Commandant Department, before moving to math teacher and math department chair. He has been assistant dean of academics since 2018.
 
Hadaway is a Gurian Institute Certified Instructor, working closely with Michael Gurian to provide training to teachers on how to teach boys. As a Gurian instructor, Hadaway has conducted extensive research on cognitive development and educational psychology specifically focused on how boys absorb information and engage in learning. He has developed and implemented targeted teaching strategies and classroom interventions to optimize learning outcomes for boys based on research findings and best practices.
 
He has collaborated with educators, parents, and stakeholders to provide insights and guidance on how to better support boys' learning styles and has facilitated workshops and professional development opportunities for teachers and education professionals on effective methods for teaching boys.
 
He also leads Riverside's Generative AI Taskforce.
 
Hadaway received his Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Excelsior College in Albany, New York, and his Master of Arts degree in Mathematics Education from DePaul University in Chicago.
