Steve Flaherty
Executive Vice President
Captain Stephen Flaherty is the executive vice president of Riverside Preparatory Academy. Previously at Riverside, Flaherty previously served as director of operations and vice president of enrollment management. He is currently a member of the 2024 Leadership Hall Class. He moved to Northeast Georgia in 2019.
He came to Riverside after a 30-year career in the U.S. Navy. A native of Marshfield, Massachusetts, Flaherty graduated from Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and received his commission through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) in 1994. Following flight training in Pensacola, FL, he was designated a Naval Flight Officer and is a career EA-6B Electronic Countermeasures Officer.
He served a number of deployments and worked in support of Operation Southern Watch, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In 2015, he reported to the U.S. Naval Academy as the Director of Brigade Operations, where he oversaw the long-range scheduling and day-to-day operations of the 4,500-member Brigade of Midshipmen. Four years later, he became a military professor at the USAF Air War College in the Department of Leadership and Warfighting. In January 2021, he assumed duties as the Commanding Officer of the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit at Savannah State University as well as Professor of Naval Science and at both Savannah State and Georgia Southern University.
